Best selling author Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, MD, Ph.D, will discuss the many ways people can change everyday actions to inhibit cancer cell development during a July 28th presentation at College of the Atlantic.

Dr. Servan-Shreiber, author of Anticancer: A New Way of Life, will present the exhaustive research he conducted into the body’s natural cancer-fighting capacities.

Dr. Servan-Shreiber, whose own cancer struggle prompted his research and ultimate findings that the majority of cancers are caused by behavior instead of genes.

A clinical professor of psychiatry and cofounder of the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Servan-Shreiber discovered he had brain cancer at the age of 31 while a subject in his own brain scanning experiment. Over the next fifteen years, he exhaustively researched the body’s natural cancer-fighting capacities and compiled his findings in his new book.

From diet to household product use, fitness to mental health, Dr. Servan-Schreiber offers a vast number of ways that you can change your everyday actions to inhibit cancer cell development.

He also explains in a groundbreaking, just-added chapter why cell phones are carcinogens. Based on a new study he led with 20 international experts, Dr. Servan-Schreiber predicts that cell phones will be considered the new "cigarette" twenty years down the line and offers 10 precautionary measures you can take to decrease the harmful effect of using cell phones.

The event, co-sponsored by Mount Desert Island Hospital and the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, will begin at 6pm. Seating is limited for this special event. Tickets are available for $10 at MDI Hospital’s reception desk and at the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center.
