MDI Hospital’s 24-hour Emergency Department provides skilled, compassionate, urgent care for patients suffering from a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, from the life-threatening to less severe.
The Hospital’s Emergency Department is staffed with team of nurses, physician assistants, and physicians who are all trained to respond to the multitude of emergency care situations that come through our door. A full-time Hospitalist specializing in the care of inpatients is available to manage the admission of patients should they need further care and evaluation in our Intensive Care or Skilled Rehabilitation Units.
Orthopedic and general surgeons are available should the need arise. Our medical imaging department with state of the art CT and Ultrasound capability provides diagnostic support.
In the busy summer months when tourists arrive, the Emergency Department adds staff to accommodate the increase in patient traffic.
Through real-time, two-way telecommunications technology, our Emergency Department staff can consult with specialists located at other facilities. If the scope of care needed exceeds our resources, our Emergency Department will arrange for prompt transportation to our tertiary care facility in Bangor.
