It is with great pleasure that Mount Desert Island Hospital announces Meryl Nass, MD has moved from Hospitalist at MDI Hospital to full time physician with the MDI Hospital and Health Centers.
Dr. Nass has provided care to the hospital’s inpatient population since 2003. Her partnership with the MDIH Primary Care Providers enhances the effectiveness and quality care at MDIH and its Health Centers.
Dr. Nass is establishing her practice with Mark Kandutsch, MD and nurse practitioners Angie DelVecchio and Linda Crowell at Cadillac Family Practice. She will see primary care internal medicine patients and provide consultations on other physicians' patients with complex medical conditions. She will continue to provide care on a referral basis for patients with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, Gulf War Syndrome, Lyme Disease, and related disorders. Her waiting list for new patients is expected to shorten considerably.
Dr. Nass plans to focus on wellness with her new patients: working on diets and lifestyle to prevent or reverse diabetes, promote weight loss, reduce risk factors for degenerative disease, and make use of natural approaches for chronic inflammatory and other disorders.
She will be offering free diet/cooking classes on reversing diabetes, and using an elimination diet to optimize health on March 3 and April 21, 2012 at the Common Good Soup Kitchen, Southwest Harbor. She may offer similar classes in Bar Harbor if there is interest.
Dr. Nass received a National Merit Scholarship and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she earned a Bachelor degree in Biology. After working as a waitress and lab technician, and traveling/working in Europe, Africa, India, Southeast Asia and Australia, she attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Nass graduated with an MD from the University of Mississippi Medical School, where her husband was a professor. She completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Nass is widely known for her work identifying an outbreak of anthrax as an act of bioterrorism, which occurred in Zimbabwe during its civil war. She is also known for her discussions of the anthrax letters case and her work on the safety of anthrax vaccine. She is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.
The Cadillac Family Practice is located at 322 Main Street in Bar Harbor. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Nass, call 288-5119.
