In an effort to improve convenience, Mount Desert Island Hospital has scheduled a series of community flu shot clinics, including one on Election Day, Nov. 6 at the Bar Harbor town office. Getting vaccinated annually against the influenza virus dramatically reduces a person’s chances of contracting the illness. Because the vaccine does not use a live virus, a person cannot contract the flu from the vaccine. “Getting the flu shot not only helps protect you against the illness, it also can benefit your friends, family and coworkers because your chance of getting sick is much lower which means you’re less likely to pass it on to others,” said MDI Hospital Community Health Educator Kathy Mulligan. The cost of the vaccine at MDI Hospital’s flu shot clinics is $30. MaineCare, Medicare, cash or checks are accepted. Receipts are also provided for patients with private insurance who wish to submit their own claim. Flu shots are available at these locations Tuesday, Oct. 16 - the Malvern-Belmont Community Room from 1-3 pm (Bar Harbor) Thursday, Oct.18 - Mount Desert Nursing Association from 1-4 pm (Northeast Harbor) Tuesday, Oct 23 - Rodick-Lorraine from 1-3 pm (Bar Harbor) Wednesday, Oct24 - Community Health Center from 1-3pm (Southwest Harbor ) Saturday, Oct 27 - MDI Hospital Health Fair, MDI High School from 10 am -1 pm Tuesday, Nov. 6 - (Election Day) Bar Harbor Town Office, 1-4 pm (Bar Harbor) For more information about flu shot clinics, contact Kathy Mulligan at 288-5082 ext. 1624 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
