To launch the Community Dental Center's effort to increase access to oral health care services for area children, MDI Hospital and the MDI YMCA will host the Island’s first-ever Give Kids a Smile Day, a day of free dental care, cleanings and education.
Established in 2003 by the American Dental Association, Give Kids a Smile Day seeks to engage dentists across the country to join with others in the community to provide dental services to underserved children. The event, set for Friday, February 21, will be held at both the MDI YMCA and the new Community Dental Center, located adjacent to the Community Health Center in Southwest Harbor.
Children from first tooth to 5th grade will receive oral hygiene instruction, cleanings and fluoride varnish from registered dental hygienists at the MDI YMCA from 9 am to 12 pm. Children up to 18 years will receive oral hygiene instruction, cleanings, and fluoride varnish from registered dental hygienists with the possibility of further examination and treatment from a dentist at the Community Dental Center from 8 am to 12 p.m. Preregistration is required. To take advantage of this special event, please call 667-0293 to schedule your child’s appointment.
