Mount Desert Island Hospital is honored to announce a transformative $10 million lead gift from acclaimed television producer and philanthropist Dick Wolf to The Building Our Future campaign. This extraordinary contribution, the largest from an individual in the Hospital’s history, will accelerate construction of a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department, upgraded surgical suites, and a welcoming new Main Street entrance.

“MDI Hospital is a cornerstone of this community,” said Dick Wolf. “I’m proud to help ensure that the people of Mount Desert Island and beyond have access to the best possible care, now, and for generations to come.”

Wolf’s leadership gift reflects his deep commitment to ensuring that world-class, compassionate care is always available for the people of Mount Desert Island and Hancock County.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has made a remarkable $350,000 commitment to Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Building Our Future campaign, directing their support to one of the campaign’s most critical priorities: charity care.

Each year, MDI Hospital provides approximately $200,000 in free and uncompensated care to local individuals and families. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s leadership investment will help offset these growing costs, ensuring that the hospital can continue meeting the healthcare needs of the region while remaining financially strong.

Mount Desert Island Hospital is proud to celebrate a generous gift of $25,000 from Machias Savings Bank to its Building Our Future Campaign in support of the Campus Improvement Project.

“Machias Savings Bank is proud to support the continued growth of our local hospital,” said Matt Horton, Vice President and Branch Manager, “We are truly fortunate to have an independent hospital here on MDI, thank you to the entire team at MDI Hospital for all that you do for this community.”

Horton celebrated this donation to MDI Hospital’s Building Our Future campaign not only as a representative of Machias Savings Bank, but as a local. “Having served with the Fire Department for many years, I’ve had countless professional interactions with the Emergency Department, and I am always impressed by the care they provided. As a resident, I’ve also turned to the hospital personally and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. We are incredibly lucky to have this hospital on MDI.”
