As of April 10, 2025, health officials have confirmed 712 measles cases across 25 states. Of those infected, 97% had not been vaccinated.
The CDC recommends the following MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccination guidelines:
Children:
👧 The first MMR dose should be given between 12 and 15 months of age.
👦 The second dose is typically administered between ages 4 and 6, prior to starting school.
Teens and Adults:
👩🦱 Most teens and adults should have one or two doses of the MMR vaccine, depending on their health status and risk factors.
👩 Individuals working in healthcare, those traveling internationally, and others in high-risk categories should be especially mindful about being up to date on their vaccinations.
👨🦰 A single dose is generally considered sufficient for most adults, and there is no broad recommendation to provide a second dose to adults who received their first dose before 1989.
The CDC recommends that individuals born between 1957 and 1967 check their measles vaccination history. While most people in this age group have some immunity, some may need extra protection. Based on current guidance from the CDC, if you were born before 1957, you are considered immune. If you would like to be vaccinated, we recommend checking with your insurance company to see if the MMR vaccine or a blood test to check for measles immunity is covered under your health plan.
Please contact yours or your child`s primary care provider for more information https://www.mdihospital.org/health-centers/.
To see the latest guidance, visit the CDC’s page on MMR vaccines: https://www.cdc.gov/measles/vaccines/index.html
