Every child deserves a safe, healthy environment to grow and thrive. This National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, MDI Health encourages families to take three important steps to help protect children from lead exposure:

🩸Get your child tested. Maine law requires children to be tested for lead poisoning at ages 1 and 2. Talk with your child`s healthcare provider about testing.

🏡Get your home tested. Lead paint dust, often found in older homes, is a major source of childhood lead poisoning in Maine. Request a free lead dust test kit here: https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/healthy-living/health-and-safety/lead-poisoning-prevention/free-lead-test-kit

🧽Keep your home lead-safe by washing children`s hands, toys, floors, and windowsills regularly. If renovations are taking place, keep children away from chipping or peeling paint.
