YEAR-ROUND PRIMARY & OPHTHALMOLOGY CARE

The Northeast Harbor Clinic is open three half days per week: Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Outside of clinic hours, appointments are available at MDI Hospital Health Centers in Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor and Trenton.

Mount Desert Island Hospital and the Mount Desert Medical Center have partnered to provide year-round primary and ophthalmology care to the Northeast Harbor community. Outside of clinic hours, primary care appointments are available at MDI Hospital Health Centers in Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor and Trenton.

George Shafranov, MD provides care at MDI Hospital’s Ophthalmology Department in the Northeast Harbor Clinic, located in Northeast Harbor. Dr. Shafranov’s specialty lies in ophthalmology with his medical interests including glaucoma diagnostics and management, and complex cataract surgery.

Dr. Shafranov has served as an investigator for major national studies: Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS), and Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study (AGIS), lectured as an Invited speaker for various national and international ophthalmology meetings, and co-authored “Shields’ Textbook of Glaucoma”, 5th edition, among many other notable honors and professional experiences.

Dr. Shafranov came to MDI because of his love for Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, traveling, hiking, books, technology, psychology, many other interests.
