“I went into family medicine because I love caring for whole families. My job gets better every year that I work, because the best part of my job is getting to know people and families over time. The world of medicine gets more complicated every year, and I enjoy helping people match their own values and philosophies with a plan for maintaining their health and managing any illness that arises.”

Dr. Casey Smith Hanson is a board-certified family medicine physician practicing at the Trenton Health Center. Dr. Hanson was previously in practice in Gouldsboro and first joined the center in May of 2018. “I’m excited to be a part of the MDI Hospital system, and I am enjoying my work at the Trenton Health Center,” she says. Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Hanson completed her undergraduate education at Swarthmore College and her medical education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. She completed her residency in the Boston area in the Tufts University Family Medicine Residency program. Dr. Hanson moved to Ellsworth in 2006 with her husband Nate and her two children Lilja and Winslow. She enjoys living in the area and spending time with her family, whether they’re boating hiking, baking or playing board games.
