Philip L. Brooks, MD, is a staff physician at Cancer Care of Maine in Oncology/Hematology. In his current role, Dr. Brooks sees patients at several Maine hospitals including Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital in Blue Hill.
Dr. Brooks graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
After joining Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) in 1980, he served as Tumor Clinic Director and Section Head of Hematology/Oncology. In addition, Dr. Brooks was instrumental in the foundation of Cancer Care of Maine and developed and expanded oncology programs at MDI Hospital, Ellsworth and elsewhere in the region. During his tenure in China from 2009 to 2012, Dr. Brooks developed and implemented the first international-style hospital-associated outpatient oncology clinic in China at Beijing United Family Hospital. He also oversaw all medical operations at United Family Hospitals in Beijing.
Throughout his career, Dr. Brooks has been actively involved in clinical research including roles as Principal Investigator for EMMC’s Community Clinical Oncology Grant, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project and Breast Cancer Prevention Trial. Past academic lecture topics include breast cancer pathways, palliative chemotherapy, breast cancer A to Z, and breast cancer management personalized care.
