Vickie Mayer was attracted to MDI Hospital by its commitment to providing high-quality, accessible healthcare and its close relationship to the MDI community. As a former professor, she’s excited to bring her writing, research and organizational skills to assist in the wonderful work done by the hospital and its dedicated volunteer supporters.
She has a B.S. degree in biology from Cornell University and Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before retiring from academia, she served on the faculties of Colby College and Truman State University. Her research interests included the implementation of social service programs and the challenges faced by non-profit healthcare organizations.
She grew up in Florida, but never felt quite at home until first moving to Maine almost 20 years ago. Upon retiring from teaching in 2023, she couldn’t wait to return. She and her husband now live in Surry Maine, with their Australian Shepherd, Lucy. In her free time, she is an avid photographer.
