Dr. Liu joined the Jackson Laboratory from the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS). As founding executive director, Dr. Liu built the GIS from a staff of three into a major research institute of 27 laboratory groups and a staff of 270, with faculty in functional genomics, computational biology, population genetics and genome-to-systems biology.
His own scientific research has focused on the functional genomics of human cancers, particularly breast cancer, uncovering new oncogenes, and deciphering the dynamics of gene regulation on a genomic scale that modulate cancer biology.
Joining Dr. Liu on the program are updates from two physician leaders from Penn Medicine. They will discuss their thoughts on how the innovative collaboration between MDI Hospital and Penn Medicine are providing cutting-edge educational opportunities for medical practitioners at both organizations.
Jill Baren, MD, is Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Chief of Emergency Services at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally and published over 80 peer-reviewed articles, editorials and book chapter on emergency medicine.
Stephanie Abbuhl, MD, is Vice Chair and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Abbuhl has led the effort to establish the collaboration between MDI Hospital and Penn Medicine to advance education, clinical care and research in emergency care at both institutions.
The public is encouraged to attend the MDI Hospital Annual Meeting. Social hour with hors d’ oeuvres and cash bar begins at 5 pm followed by the program and presentations at 6 pm. Parking is available in the gated lot between the Bar Harbor Club and the Harborside Hotel on West Street.
