Kebo Valley Ladies Golf Association swings support to the Breast Center at MDI Hospital

Women diagnosed with breast cancer will have better access to resources and tools to make their recovery more comfortable thanks to a donation to the Breast Center at Mount Desert Island Hospital by the Kebo Valley Ladies Golf Association.

The $1,000 donation was the result of proceeds from this summer’s 9-hole scramble event. The donation will fund the “Hope Bag” project which provides a bag full of resource information, books, seat belt cushions, and other tools that make fighting breast cancer more tolerable. The donation will provide enough Hope Bags to provide one to each newly diagnosed patient for approximately one year.

For the past 10 years, the organization pledged the event’s proceeds to the Susan B. Komen Foundation but this year “the ladies decided it should go somewhere local,” said event organizer Martha Abbott. In keeping with tradition, they decided to support The Breast Center’s efforts to directly serve women of the greater MDI region.

On Aug. 22, the Golf Association will once again support women’s health with their Tee off for Teal golf event to support ovarian cancer research and support. For more information and to sign up to play, contact the Kebo Valley Pro Shop at 288-3000.
